'Chistmas' Is Cancelled?
You finally find a decent graphic and the spelling is wrong. Obviously Christmas is not cancelled otherwise all the prep work was for naught. Just to let all the good little kiddies know...I finished all my shopping, all my baking, all my decorating and nearly all my wrapping. So I guess Christmas is a go!
Santa Baby
HoHoHo...Merry Christmas! Every year we, at work, look forward to the annual Christmas Dinner/Party. For the past few years it has been held in the Silver Room at Crown Isle Resort. Our own space with a beautifully catered dinner, bar, Christmas tree and fire place. We started of with a Seafood Grazing Station...lox, candied salmon, shrimp, mussels, oysters, tuna ( raw, I think, but oh so good). Dinner consisted of salads, turkey with trimmings, ham, prime rib, yorkshire pudding, tortellini, mashed potatoes, yams....topped off with assorted Christmas inspired desserts. We should be able to wear jogging pants to these occasions! A gift exchange, a few games and even a dabbling of karaoke, followed by a short speech from Norm who then handed out a small bonus. I came home with a big bottle of Bailey's Caramel Cream...sounds yummy. I was a real good girl (I know, that was the problem)...I only had two drinks at the beginning of the evening. Started with a Crantini and then a Sour Apple Martini, couple cups of coffee and a couple cans of diet Pepsi ending the evening by 11:30. Truth be told, it really was only a dinner as all of us are real stick in the muds. You'd think the young people would at least get in the 'party' spirit but they are the worst of the bunch. Who know...maybe next year?Check out the pics on my Flickr.
On The First Day
So it all begins...first the mantle, then the tree and then the baking. We have finally put up the tree and all the decorations. It is not until I see the trappings of Christmas in my own home that I can honestly say that I am in the spirit of the season. Now I want to finish shopping, wrapping and baking. I have actually managed to make a big dent in the shopping but still have a few things to get. A short trip to Nanaimo is always necessary even if nothing is purchased. All going well, I'll be heading there on Thursday.
Tonight I am going to start a bit of wrapping and making out a list of ingredients for my baking. It seems that every year I do less and less. At one time I used to bake at least up to a dozen different kinds of goodies. These days it's only what the kids want. If it's in the house I tend to eat and we can't have that. So this year it's shortbread, almond bark, cranberry nut loaf and some coconut/jam and butter tarts. That reminds me...I need to buy some pfeffernusse cookies for Trevor.
Next Saturday is our annual Christmas dinner/party at Crown Isle Resort. I am looking forward to it but it sure would be nice to have a date for the occasion. The food is always fantastic and I can already taste the Crantini.
I was just thinking about all the stuff that still has to be done and like every year...it seems overwhelming....but you know.....it seems to always get done....
How I Almost Became a Crackhead
Crackhead 1. a person on crack2. a moron 3. a person with a fairly large crack in the skull regionI think that if you got two out of three from above....then you are definitely a crackhead. Luckily I only got one therefore I am certainly not a crackhead. Yesterday morning I quietly left the house for work as not to wake up Anne on her day off. Armed with my bag, my lunch, a few library books and some papers to fax, I carefully proceeded down the ramp at the front door. It was clear of snow and looked fine. Well.....next thing I knew...my feet flew up in the air and I landed on my butt, my back and finally cracked the back of my head on the concrete. Everything went flying. The sound of my head hitting will remain with me a long time. Thank God it didn't knock me out. After returning inside to gather myself and reprint the papers which got wrecked, I went to work. All afternoon I contended with pain under my shoulder blades and it felt like a vice gripping my chest. This morning all of that was gone but my neck and shoulders are giving me grief. According the the doctor...a bit of whiplash. Ah well...could have all been worse. Oh...and it's number 2... moron....
The Birthday Girl
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KEIRA!!!
On The Road Again
So....here we go again...another foot of snow has fallen on top of the already foot from Sunday. I spent 3 hours on my day off shoveling my car out. The driveway is about a hundred feet long. To tell the truth..I really didn't mind it at all. It was a beautiful day, the snow was light and I guess I was in the right frame of mind. The only downside was toward the end...the banks were sooo high on either side and I nearly didn't have the strength to fling the snow off the shovel. I left the car parked and drove into work with Anne on Friday. The side roads..Rennie, Left and Coleman were terrible, rutted, packed and slippery. At least the highway should be clear...but alas..not so. It was a bad as the side roads. I think this year the snow removal was atrocious. I suppose the hope was that the rain would remove it. Today I took my own vehicle to work...and except for Rennie Road the roads were passable. The meltdown has slowly started...and that in itself will leave us with a whole new set of problems. I am so looking forward to the streets swimming in slush, mountains of dirty snow taking weeks to clear away and rivers running down our sidewalks. After all
that complaining...take a look at this next picture. In spite of it
all, a snowfall is a beautiful thing.
Talking about a beautiful thing...it's my baby's birthday today. She has turned twenty-six. I still remember the day she was born...perfect. And she stayed that way. Right now she is out having a birthday dinner. I wish I could be with her but she'll be home in a few weeks for Christmas. I'll just have to wait. Trevor is coming home this week...had enough of his job. He'll be looking for a new one. I'll have to put him to work around here. Can't have him lazing about.....hey...next big thing...I'm going to start getting ready for Christmas..decorating, baking, shopping, wrapping...I'll keep you posted!
