Mile 0

Just got a phone call from that wayward son of mine. Right now after a five and a half hour drive from the oilfields, he's holed up in the Aurora Park Inn. His first time visit to Dawson Creek, B.C. He tells me that it is bigger than he thought it would be. I suppose with a name like 'creek' it conjures up something tinier than small town. At least he's had a nice meal, a hot shower, a Canucks game and a queen size bed. Tomorrow he'll find out what's on the agenda work wise. He should enjoy...soon enough he'll be back in the fields working 12 hour shifts, eating industrial type food, movies during down time and sleeping on a cot in a sleeping bag! Mom misses him.

Roughnecks

...or should I say rednecks? This morning the boys, Trevor and Gavin headed out to catch their respective flights out of town. Both are headed to the oilfields. Trevor is returning to Fort Nelson and Gavin is headed to Drayton Valley in Alberta. Trevor just called and he arrived safe and sound to his new camp. He says it's actually not too far from his previous one with Tripoint. Apparently this camp has no chief cook and bottle washer. The boys have to do it all for themselves. Guess that's one way to learn how to cook and clean! He's been told that there is someone on the oil rig from the Comox Valley. Of course he's curious to see if he knows him. He's only been gone since this morning and I miss him already. Ah well..when they left they said "See you in two months." I wonder if we can all wait that long?

Hazy Days

As you can see from my previous post, I have spent some time with Keira. I flew into Vancouver very early Tuesday morning and spent the day at the Airport Hilton Hotel at a Sleep Shop Roadshow. Very informative and the hotel put on a great continental breakfast and tasty lunch. That evening we had a scrumptious dinner at Earl's. I had Salmon Provencal Salad. Mixed greens, roasted sweet potato, crisp beans, goat cheese and grilled salmon...mmmm....wonderful. I need to find the recipe. The following evening we had dinner at Wings with Brock. Another great meal with great company. Both days ended with a movie. Thursday morning came too quickly and the flight home was iffy as to whether we would be able to land in the fog. Thank god we did. I went to get my car in the pay parking and it wasn't there! Turns out they had to tow some vehicles in order to do maintenance in that area. I was this close to panic when airport security advised me of the tow. Home Sweet Home and back to regular chores, work tomorrow and the usual grind...

A Feather In His 'Cap'

So, you ask..."What is Leo doing on your blog?" I just had a Leonardo Dicaprio overload this past week. Keira and I went to the movies two nights in a row. First we saw Blood Diamond and then The Departed. I have always been a fan of Leo's but he surpassed my expectations. I really do believe he deserves to be nominated for best actor...in fact even win. Other members of the cast in both films also deserve to be recognized. I look forward to seeing these again when they are out on DVD. Blood Diamond left you with a lot to think about and The Departed left you in shock. Take a look at the above photos...don't you think he looks a little like my Trevor?
